This week, it’s something I’ve been after for what seems like forever. It’s Laid, the 1993 fifth studio album from James. The Manchester band is perhaps best known for the title track of this album, and another song that made it over here called “Sit Down”. To judge them based on these two songs alone is a complete disservice, however.
Laid was produced by Brian Eno, and features an atmospheric blend of rock, new wave, folk rock, dream pop, alternative and more. It ended up putting the band on the map a bit in the US, and made a lifelong fan out of me.
This is the 2023 UK repress of the 2015 UK remastered reissue on transparent red coloured vinyl. It comes with two matte printed inner sleeves with lyrics and credits. The outer jacket is also printed in a matte finish. We can get it for the store (would be a bit of a wait) but as an import it isn’t “cheap”. Let me know if you’d like to order a copy!
