Asporça Hatun, the second wife of Ottoman Sultan Orhan Gazi. She was a Byzantine princess, daughter of Emperor Andronikos III Paleologos. Her father married her to Orhan Gazi to try to stop the Ottoman raids. Asporça Hatun and Orhan Gazi got married in 1320 and had two children, Prince İbrahim and Fatma Hatun. Some people think she had another daughter named Selçuk Hatun. Sadly, her son İbrahim was killed because he didn't recognize his older brother Murad as the new Sultan. Her father, King Andronikos, was so upset by the news from his daughter that he died. His young son, Yuannes, became king, but was soon overthrown by his cousin, Prince Kantakuzen. Asporça Hatun was a kind and charitable person. She built many buildings and donated to the poor. She even set up a foundation to provide for her family and the poor. According to records, she wanted three Quran readers to read for her and her children on Mondays and Fridays, food for the poor during Ramadan and Eid al-Adha, and lamps lit on holy nights. Asporça Hatun was a quiet and sensitive princess just like other princesses, but she was also much loved by the people. Her Father-in-law, Osman Gazi, acted on behalf of Alaedin pasa and donated many lands to her, including Narlı and Kaplı Firengili villages.
