The last day of engine week, today I am posting the before and after pictures of 4 random projects. The first pair was my first project here in the Netherlands a late 70’s Jeep 258. I learned a valuable lesson on this project was to absolutely measure everything, while measuring the valve guides I came across one that had an oversized valve in it. In this cylinder head the guides are cast into the head. This required a special insert be installed in the opening. From that day forward I came across other crazy things that I would never do myself but others did. The second pair of pictures is a Corvette LS 5.7. This was removed from a flooded car, it had extensive water damage, This engine was going into a street rod so it got a full powder coat and revised fuel injection system The third pair was a worn Austin Healey 100/4. In addition to bringing it up to M specs we updated the oil sealing to modern specifications so it will be a dry AH 100/4 The next set is a stock 454 from a mid 70’s Chevy C-10 truck, the truck is getting the restomod treatment and needed some more go with the show. Part 3 of my engines series. After initial inspection and tear down is the most time consuming part of the process. Cleaning, measuring and looking for those little things like cracks or other little time bombs that can be hiding deep within. The first picture is an Austin Healey 100-4 looking very much like an old British engine. This is a case of tear down and clean first,then measure and inspect. Picture 2 Is a Lexus IS200 going into the ultrasonic cleaning machine. The original finish on this engine was in excellent condition so the ultrasonic cleaning results in a like new look. Picture 3 Chevrolet LS 5.7 in the hot tank. Hi pressure and super hot water clean up the aluminum and residual contamination Next four pictures are Mid 1940’s Stuart light tank engine. Measurements of everything is documented and a rebuild plan is formed Ford GAA , Machine work, is then completed after spare parts are located so everything is sized correctly, then back to be washed and prepared for assembly. Last picture Lamborghini Isolero, cleaned, inspected, measured and machine operation plan formulated. Now it waits for the parts then it will be reassembled. Tomorrow is the before and after pictures
