Passion Flower.
I never quite believed in love at first sight. I never dreamed that flowers could grow in my garden too.
But two years ago, everything changed. Because I discovered this special vine in bloom.
Its flowers had the prettiest violet petals with a unique crown in the center. I had never seen anything like it. My heart was beaming with joy and excitement like a child who found an ice cream truck on a hot summer day.
At that moment, I had completely forgotten that I had never succeeded in getting any plant to bloom in my garden! I absolutely had to bring it home from the plant nursery.
Thankfully, it is a hardy plant that has been gracious to me all year round. Every time a new flower blooms, joy blooms inside my heart too. Usually that means I have to go get my tripod and camera. After hundreds of photos over the years, somehow I still think that I can’t fully capture the true beauty of this unique flower.

Periwinkle.
My daughter has been finding it challenging to adjust to her new school. She misses her friends terribly. Today’s frame of a little tearful flower reminded me of a recent conversation we had when I drove her to school.
Daughter: “Mom, I think last night I cried till I had no more tears and fell asleep.”
Me: “Crying is good. Let it out! In fact, I am envious that you could cry your heart out when you are sad”
Daughter (eyes widening): “What do you mean you are envious of my crying???”
Me: “Well, believe it or not, when you grow up, crying may not be so easy or acceptable. So yes, I hope that when you need to release your emotions, your tears will flow and your face will glow when the tears stop.”
When we finally arrived at her school, she kissed me goodbye with the sweetest smile. Perhaps she needed to know that it was ok for her to cry though she was no longer a young child. Crying can be beautiful and therapeutic my dear girl. I hope you will always remember that mummy is totally cool about it.

Spider Lilies.
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” is a saying that has often been attributed to Leonardo da Vinci.
I have always loved simplicity, especially in the way I dress and the way I design my house. Simplicity is often not easy at all though.
In photography, I also pursue simplicity and prefer to create something magical by working with nature. The morning sun and raindrops, in particular, are gold to me. This morning, I had both elements to play with and that truly made my day!
What was more special was that I had a friend right next to me, happily clicking away too, making us look like two giggly school girls. Indeed happiness multiplies when shared.

Water Lily.
There was always a frisson of awe in the presence of such a dazzling beauty. I had visited the park pretty early on an overcast day only to find that none of the water lilies in the lake had bloomed. Thankfully, upon returning to the park after having breakfast with a dear friend, I found this breathtakingly beautiful water lily waiting for me.

Water Lily ‘Corona Red’. An award winning tropical water lily. It was truly an honour to see such a rare collection in a home garden that I visited recently.
During the visit I took lots of photos. This photo is particularly special as it has a heartwarming story that goes the extra mile to restore my faith in humanity…
It was like an oven out in the garden. Twenty minutes was all it took for the scorching heat to be truly unbearable. Fluids and electrolytes in my body were rapidly depleting. My camera felt so heavy as if it had gained a few pounds under the sun. I pressed on for another ten minutes but by the time I reached this final flower, I was ready to raise my white flag and put the camera away.
Like an angel, the gracious host came to me to spur me on. He even used a big straw hat to shelter the flower for me when I made an impish comment that the sun was too harsh for a decent photo. He truly indulged my passion for photography though it was our first time meeting.
What’s more beautiful than this magnificent flower? A beautiful human heart of course.

Coral Plant. This is a relatively new addition to the sidewalk near my house. I can’t wait for more buds to bloom!

The clusters carry both male and female flowers and flowering continues for most of the year. Fruit are green capsules at first, becoming blackish-brown at maturity, when they explode and scatter their seeds up to 4 metres (13 feet) away.
