Another session with too many favorites and not enough slides 🤩😩 So far I’ve only missed one day of my goal to post daily in April, and I’m pretty proud of myself since my track record before this was maybe once or twice a month 😆 I’m learning not to second guess myself too much, and happy to finally be sharing everything that’s just been sitting on my computer!
I had the best morning mentoring the talented @morganorahood.photo while she did a shootalong with me at a newborn session! I got to share with her firsthand my organic approach to newborn shoots, where and why I place families the way I do, what prompts I incorporate, and how it all comes together to create a positive experience for the family and an emotive gallery of images they’ll cherish forever. We’re both already excited to share what we captured! For now, enjoy a few from the session where my @heartfulmagazine featured image came from, since I realized I never shared! ❤️
Pulling a late night finishing some school portraits tonight! I tend to always have a show on in the background, and lately I’ve been hooked on Love is Blind… I’ve made it through all the US seasons and now I’m onto Love is Blind Brazil 🇧🇷😆 Has anybody else watched?? What else needs to go on my list?!
I told myself I was going to try to post every day in April, so here I am on day 2 already procrastinating until 9pm 😆😅 Plus I’ve been sitting on this perfect newborn session for way too long, it’s time it sees the light of day! 🫶🏻
While I adore in-home newborn sessions, sometime families prefer to use a different space and that’s totally okay. This guest house is the perfect alternative and almost always available - I happen to know the owner pretty well - hi mom! 😉👋🏻❤️

The sweetest newborn session with 3 littles, 3 and under. It was a cloudy drizzly morning, so this dreamy porch couldn’t have been more perfect. Swipe to the end to see the main spot we used inside… I really mean it when I say that all I need is one good window, and this is why I’ll walk through your whole house including the kitchen to find that amazing light! 🪟✨

Over the years I have photographed several precious children who have since gone to be with Jesus. This job is SUCH a privilege and it’s never lost on me when I remember that fact. I’m holding those mommas and the other parents like them extra close in my heart today ❤️ I hope each and all of you mommas feel extra loved, cared for, and held up today if you need it ❤️

Bright and airy… or dark and moody?! Based on the available natural light in a home, a gallery can take on either look. Sometimes we stick to just a couple of spaces in a home, and I’ve done many newborn sessions in just one single room! Since this was an older home with LOTS of windows, this session really had it all, and I can honestly say that I don’t really have a preference of which I like better! What do you think?! 🪟📷💛

I wrapped up THE most incredible year with this precious newborn session yesterday 🤍 Thank you thank you thank you to each and every person who trusted me as your photographer this year. I picked up a camera 4 years ago because time is a thief and babies don’t keep.. so to be the one to witness and capture your babies and families grow is a privilege that will never be lost on me ❤️ Happy New Year and cheers to all that 2022 will bring!
I’m beginning to really think about our sweet girl coming soon (hello 2nd baby 😅), and one thing I know I want is a great carrier / wrap!! So far I’ve heard great things about the Baby Bjorn, Happy Baby, and Solly (although I’m literally going to need someone to come to my house and teach me the art of the wrap bc I never figured it out last time!) I was looking forward to my second round of fall minis tonight, but life had other plans! I’ve currently lost my voice and with wind gusts up to 50mph predicted for this evening, I decided to reschedule rather than attempt to whisper-yell to my wind-blown clients all night 🌬🥴 In the meantime I’m still staring down my 20+ session editing list and working on it during any free moment I have! Last night was a first as I got to witness and capture the miracle of birth 🤍 I was / am in total awe of @allison_elizabeth12 and I’m just so grateful she trusted me to be there in that sacred space with her and her family as they welcomed their sweet baby boy.

Well, it was our turn for family photos last night! Between the moments of Eloise hiding from the camera and emotionally abusing our photographer, we managed to have some fun and I know she got some great shots 🤣😅 I can’t wait to see them, but I’ll be lucky if @amandascottphotographs answers my next email to book her again before Eloise turns 18! 😬🙈❤️
At 7 days old, little Mr. Calihan was the most alert newborn I think I’ve ever photographed! Don’t tell my husband, but he was giving me alllll the feels 😬👶🏻✨

Currently having a laminating party (party of 1 🙋🏻♀️) while I watch New Girl, to work on some school stuff for Eloise. The nerd in me finds it a little therapeutic, but ask me again tomorrow after 150 pages and see if I still feel the same way 😅

One of my must-have shots during a newborn session is in the crib 🤍 I take this photo because one day they’ll be filling up the whole thing with their toddler body and all their stuffed animals and blankets and whatever else they tell you they “neeeed” in there with them 🤣 But for today, it’s just pretty sweet to see how tiny they are and to imagine how much growing they’ll do ✨
