• Our culture’s patriarchal threads run deep, and even though men will readily say in research studies that they want and expect to have an equal partnership once they have family, their behaviors don’t align with this possibility. I personally don’t believe that the majority of men want this to be the case. But they were raised in households where they heard that girls can be anything that they wanted to be, but weren’t then expected to modify their own behavior at all. While it might seem almost passe at this point, equal partnership is a relatively new phenomenon in our history, and it’s going to require an overhaul not just of the belief systems, but also of the skills and expectations. 👨🍼 If you’re starting a family or early in family life and want to do things differently, we’re teaching a workshop soon covering how to partners can come into parenting in a healthier and more balanced way.
