What to get below $1K? This is the question many have asked, especially for some of us who just started the hobby. Most of them didn’t like my response cos it was never been a straight answer. Well, it really depends on what you’re looking for, a dress watch for formal occasion, a sporty/casual watch for a daily beater, a modern/vintage watch, or any other specific watch complications which may be suited to your daily profession. Below $1K is where you can find almost all type of these watches as it is imho, the widest range or the sweet spot in the watch market. They’re usually not so thrilled cos I didn’t tell them directly to get a vintage Seiko Silverwave (like in this picture, the left one), or a brand new Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical Handwinding Black 38 Ref. H69439931, or some other watch with specific reference number. I then added to my answer that the most important thing is to choose what you like the most bcos in the end it’s you who’s going to wear it everyday, not me, not Brad Pitt, or not some other watch brand ambassador as well.. :P Usually what comes after this is the doubt about its resale value and I would close the conversation by saying if you have chosen the watch you like the most in the first place, you’ll have no worry at all on its resale value, you’ll check your wrist every once in a while during the day and realize that you’re absolutely fine to be stuck with this beauty for the rest of your life. And that’s why my friend when a #watchfam gets a new watch we’d say ‘Congrats and Wear it in good health!’ instead of ‘Congrats and Hope its resale value is up!’ Cheers and Have a good day ahead! :)
