‘The Cat Returns’ was originally going to be a 1999 20-minute short film starring Baron and Muta in an antique store (a spin-off of ‘Whisper of the Heart’) which was requested by a Japanese theme park. The park ended up cancelling the project so Miyazaki decided to give Hiroyuki Morita the responsibility of making a storyboard for this ‘cat project’ and create a 45 minute film - but eventually they wanted to make it into a full-length feature film!

I think the character development is portrayed so well in the movie and the characters greatly complement each other. The creativity put in making a fantastical world of cats is unique and interesting - if you love cats you would probably love this movie! 🐈
