Tour de France Echelon⠀
⠀
When my husband first introduced me to the Tour de France, and I mean a *real* introduction, he taught me all about the sport. The different stages, what a stage win meant, the different roles the riders take etc. I was captivated. I read up on every single team that year and we watched each stage together and I would tell him who the riders were. He was shocked. I was shocked. ⠀
⠀
It was so much fun to watch these amazing athletes compete in what is one of the most difficult and impressive endurance sports there is. Riding hundreds of miles a day for 3 weeks is no small feat. ⠀
⠀
In more recent years, my knowledge of the riders and teams isn't what it used to be but I still love the sport and the incredible accomplishments of these guys (But when are you going to let women in???!!!). ⠀
⠀
The image I illustrated above was inspired by the team, #Movistar. They are riding in an echelon formation, which is when riders fan out in this manner to shield the riders behind from cross winds. They take turns by signalling for the next rider to take the lead. This signal can be seen when the front rider juts out his elbow. He then will drift to the back and the next rider moves up to take the brunt of the wind. ⠀
⠀
My husband and I used to form a "2 man" echelon but we never switched. I always rode behind. Okay, call me a wimp! haha! ⠀
⠀
Do you ride? What's your style? Are you an echelon leader? or a wimp like me? :-D⠀
⠀
⠀
#tourdefrance #cycling #ilovecycling #cycleforlife #howtohaveabicyclelife #echelon #movistar #teammovistar #digitalillustration #illustrationartist #illustration #womenwhodraw #makingarteveryday #dailyillustration #color #digitaldesign #procreate #ipadpro
