This Wine Wednesay I had Bordeaux on my mind. I popped open this 2010 Clos Marsalette from Pessac-Leognan and right out of the bottle this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (45%) and Cabernet Franc (5%) was extremely aromatic. So much so that I actually envisioned colors when I took in the aromas - deep maroon for the dark fruit, brown for the tobacco and green for the leafy notes! Very interesting!
Just like the aromas made me think of colors, the flavors of this deep maroon wine made me envision a fall day where I was sitting by a campfire devouring some juicy ribs coated with a spicy barbeque sauce while smoking a good cigar and surrounded by the dry, colorful leaves on the floor. A juicy, yet savory wine that reminded me why I love wines from this region of Bordeaux.
In case you are wondering about the “A-3” label on the bottle, this bottle was one of the bottles in the “SOMM Like It Bordeaux” event organized by the Bordeaux Wine Council in the USA that I was invited to attend. In a blind tasting of 36 wines (hence the label) this wine caught my attention, giving the phrase “Love Is Blind” a whole new meaning! A big Thank You to @niketapurandare (who invited me to the event) and @frenchyfred for generously including this wine in my goodie bad at the end of the event!
