While previewing properties in Gonzales County, we came across Sam Houston Oak. After receiving news of the fall of the Alamo, Sam Houston ordered the town of Gonzales to be burned and it’s citizens to flee East to safety. With Santa Anna’s army following close behind, Sam Houston and his small army made camp under this oak tree to rest for their long journey to the decisive battle of San Jacinto.
