Seg煤n cuenta la leyenda el rey coloc贸 el fragmento de un hueso de Buda en la espalda de un elefante blanco sagrado, y lo liber贸. El animal subi贸 a lo alto de la monta帽a Doi Suthep y, exhausto, bram贸 tres veces antes de caer muerto. El rey lo interpret贸 como una se帽al, y mand贸 construir un templo en el lugar. Hoy en d铆a es uno de los templos m谩s venerados de Tailandia y lugar de peregrinaci贸n.

According to legend, the king placed the fragment of a Buddha bone on the back of a sacred white elephant, and released it. The animal climbed to the top of Doi Suthep Mountain and, exhausted, roared three times before falling dead. The king interpreted it as a sign, and ordered to build a temple in the place. Today it is one of the most revered temples in Thailand and a place of pilgrimage.
