Roro Update

I haven't posted a Roro update in a little while and wanted to let you know it's because I am still trying to make some decisions before pulling the trigger on her surgery.
Test results this week confirmed that her latest 4 week round of Baytril finally cleared up the E-coli infection (Great news!) and I've been using medicated wipes on her daily to help keep any NEW bacteria out while weighing our options here.
The specialist recommended Roro have the Episioplasty procedure to correct her recessed vulva and that will hopefully cure the chronic UTI's. But I also wanted to get a 2nd opinion from our regular vet (who is on vacation for 2 weeks) given her age and not wanting to put her through a surgery unless he too feels the benefits will outweigh the risks and any temporary discomfort.

For me, quality of life is always of the utmost concern when making decisions for the animals. My hesitation is while it's a fairly easy surgery to perform, the recovery period will not be pleasant for her. It's two weeks of sutures in her private area and she will have to wear a cone for a while to keep from licking the area. As well, anesthesia always carries extra risks for pugs being a brachycephalic breed.

There is also the matter of who will perform the surgery if we move forward with it. The specialist certainly has a lot more experience in having performed more of these specific delicate procedures but they also charge a lot more money than our local vet, so this is another question I've been mulling over.

I was recently chatting with my friend Kristi about how I'm struggling with which way to go and she said, "Why not ask Roro what she thinks"? ;) So while we wait for the vet recommendations I've been doing just that! Roro hasn't given me a clear answer yet but I'm hoping she will give me some type of sign in the coming weeks.

We will of course keep you updated as Roro's case continues to unfold. THANK YOU again for all of the support!! We appreciate it so much and couldn't do it without you.
XOXO

XOXO
