Tarantino 38/45: DUCK DODGERS (Episode 3.11, “Master & Disaster.” Aired October 21, 2005). ⁠⠀<br />⁠⠀<br />QT voices “Master Moloch,” a kung fu master in this episode of DUCK DODGERS near the end of the animated series’ run. ⁠⠀<br />⁠⠀<br />If you were wondering what on earth QT was thinking when he entertained the terrible idea of playing Pai Mei in KILL BILL: VOLUME 2 (see earlier post), well, here’s your chance to see what that might have been like. Master Moloch is obviously Pai Mei, in appearance and actions. This is a very short thing (12 minutes), but it’s obvious what QT is up to here: yet another homage to himself and his vast retro interests. ⁠⠀<br />⁠⠀<br />The voice he chooses here is a bit beyond description — and beyond problematic. I have little doubt that this would have been the voice he used in KB2 had he followed through with that ghastly plan. ⁠⠀<br />⁠⠀<br />But, truly, this is among the most clear examples of the way QT brazenly appropriates and inserts himself into other cultures as if he is authentically part of them based simply on his knowledge and investment.<br />⁠⠀<br />#Tarantino
