Saga's Menburyu, a fierce ritual that utilizes masks and taiko drums, has been designated an Intangible Cultural Property. This menacing statue resides at Saga Station.
Its origin resides within lore pertaining to the battle between Bungo and Hizen (Saga) Provinces. It is said that the warriors of Hizen donned demon masks along with the startling use of gongs and drums during a night raid resulting in a bloody victory for Hizen.
