“I met Dinesh at my first job. My manager introduced me to him & said that he’d show me the ropes. I was charmed by him from the get go. We’d spend hours together & he’d always make me laugh.
He’d even give me advice about my career–I wanted to study more, but I wasn’t confident. He motivated me & eventually, I did. And it was staying away from each other, that made us realise that we were in love & soon, we started dating.
He was so loving–he’d take time out & drive me to interviews, even if they were far away. We’d only just started enjoying our relationship & couldn’t wait to get married–when suddenly things changed.
We’d gone to Vaishnodevi with friends & after our trek all of us felt faint. But Dinesh didn’t get better for days. His friends took him to the hospital, where they realised that his blood pressure was very high! They admitted him & did all the necessary tests.
That’s when we found out that Dinesh had only one kidney since birth. Because he wasn’t made aware of this, there were no precautions taken & now his kidney was heavily damaged. I was devastated.
Dinesh didn’t have a dad, his mom was a housewife & his brother couldn't help because of his own responsibilities. He couldn’t work anymore–so his friends & I pooled in money for his dialysis. Watching him like that was heart wrenching.
The doctors said the only option was to get a transplant, one that he needs in the next 2-3 months.. So we put him on the list, but I can’t afford the procedure. The dialysis costs Rs.50000 per month & even that I’m struggling to afford. I’m fighting this battle, all alone.
Our life had only just started–now he has to spend 3 days a week getting dialysis & the other days resting. We wanted to get married, have children & travel the world. But none of that may happen. I’m putting up a fight, I’m trying to save the love of my life–but with each day that I fail in getting funds, I’m losing hope.”
--
Dinesh has only a few months to get a transplant.
