I saw this one struggling in the creek. There have been quite a few ground wasp stings lately, as the insects are looking for someplace warm and sweet. ‘Tis the season. I wasn’t sure if this was a wasp or not, but I couldn’t walk past it knowing that just a little help might save its life. I got a little stone and moved it to terra firma. I watched for a while, then got distracted looking for fossils. After some time, I returned to see if it was still there. Earlier, I had noticed a hive high in the grand old hickory nearby. I determined that it lived in the tree. I cupped my hands around it where it sat, very still, on the little rock. I could feel the warmth from my hands and imagined it would help the insect. Eventually, movement came and I again lifted it by the small rock. It clearly preferred the warmth of my hands because as I carried it across the creek to the old hickory, the insect, which I now know as a honeybee, left the rock and climes onto me. The closer I got to the tree, the more its pointy back end started to drag along the surface of my skin. I got nervous that it was about to sting me and I dropped when it refused to climb onto its tree home. This animal would not have stung me, I don’t think. Perhaps it was moving that way to create more warmth? I don’t know. But, it felt good to spend my time in such a way, rather than stepping over a struggling and terrified being without a thought or care of its experience. Save a bee, hug a tree.
.
.
.
#journeyilluminated #saveabee #hugatree #hickoryhoneybee #dontdrown #beelifeguard #kmog #honeybee
