Natalia was interviewed by Quién about Elena and I tried to translate her words (pt 1):
"She's not the stereotypical latina woman we're used to see, who doesn't speak spanish, doesn't know her own culture and who never lived in her country. It was important to me to make latinos feel they have a pure representation of a mexican girl who understands and speaks slang and who has her traditions on her mind. Latinos are braver and stronger than we and the history have allowed ourselves to think. As a Mexican immigrant woman who lives in this country with a government that right now is strongly rejecting us, I wanted to show a great strength and strong values in this character.
She's Columbian and I'm Mexican, but we have the same attachment to our roots and I wanted to represent this universally, so everyone can see theirself reflected in values and not in colors, races or genders.
During my fight scenes, I gave the rivals the face of American and Cancun politicians"
