One of the Pandan River grey-headed fish eagles (Haliaeetus ichthyaetus) appears to be doing a spot of housekeeping, pulling a ‘tapao’ bag from the river. The tapao is an iconic plastic takeaway drink bag used in Singapore and some parts of South East Asia. Joke aside, it seems the keen-eyed eagle saw a fish and it just so happens it was in the bag. As to how and why the fish was in the bag is a mystery, but after reviewing images from the time of the dive, it appears it may have been a coincidence. Personally, I’d like to see these bags and their plastic ties banned. They may be iconic but just like plastic straws, they are a danger to wildlife. Singapore. 17 August 2019
