Released on this day in 1979. “Drums and Wires” is the 3rd studio album from XTC. This album has the debut of Dave Gregory, who joined the band as the lead guitarist after keyboardist Barry Andrews left in early 1979. Gregory went on to remain with the group up until 1998. Only 1 single was released from this album, and it’s my favorite song from the band, "Making Plans for Nigel.” This LP also has the original recording of "Ten Feet Tall,” a re-recorded version was released in 1980 only in the US, as the band's 1st American single, designed to coincide with their 1st American tour. The album was produced by Steve Lilywhite. Two songs from this LP, "Making Plans for Nigel" and "Scissor Man" were both covered by Primus. “Drums and Wires” is considered by many to be "an emblem" of new wave, as well as one of the genre's most innovative records of the late 1970s. It’s excellent! I wish I’d had a chance to see them. #drumsandwires #xtc #makingplansfornigel
