The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate Lagos is organizing a media literacy workshop in collaboration with Africa Check, the continent’s first independent fact-checking organization at the American Corner Ibadan.

2. Dr. Jide Johnson, The Deputy Provost at the Nigeria Institute of Journalism.
The objective of the workshop is to encourage participants to become active and discerning news consumers while also promoting responsible social media use.
Some of the topics to be treated at the program will include: · Importance of media literacy in the digital age, · How to verify and fact-check using a smartphone, · How to spot false headlines and misleading stories, · Menace of fake social media accounts, · Citizen journalism, social media reporting ethics and best practices, · Top 5 verification apps.
