Scarlet Macaw( Ara macao) plucking a tropical almond very early in the morning. At first look it looks like there is hardly any fruit in that tree but the macaws have no difficulty in finding them 😂 Nut produced by the abundant Beach almond trees are among favorite foods of these large colorful birds.

Fun fact: Surprisingly, the biggest predators of these incredible macaws are the beautiful toucans as they eat their eggs. Otherwise, these intelligent creatures can live up to 70 years. Both macaws and toucans stay together in the rainforest of Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica. Every morning we would wake up to the scarlet macaw’s calling. These colorful birds were just one aspect of the local wildlife in Lapa Rios which we could see without leaving the comfort of our lodge 😀
