In a just and fair society, everyone is given freedom to live out their potential, or to simply live their own lives. Anne Frank never got her chance, and she could have had a bright future<br />▫️<br />Her story is one of millions of others whose lives were cut short because a madman decided that a race of people is inferior to him. People were taken, held captive or killed. Some families, like the Franks in Amsterdam, went into hiding. Along with another family hoping to wait out the war, they hid in an old factory. It is where Anne Frank wrote on her diary for two years. She wrote about her experiences living in the secret annex, having quarrels with her sister, misunderstandings with her parents and their neighbors. She wrote about longing for friends, boys, being a daddy's girl, celebrating holidays, and their hopes and dreams after the war. She probably never intended this for  the public since there were parts that seemed much too personal<br />▫️<br />She left the diary when their hiding place were found out and they were taken. Having no knowledge of the significance of what her writing will have become, this probably wasn't even on her mind. During her last days at a concentration camp, she might have thought of her dad, or what her mom or sister is doing. What was clear was that she was seeing the people around her being systemically exterminated. What a terrible thing for a child to witness and be a part of<br />▫️<br />I remember reading this a couple years ago and feeling anger that a person to rose to power with the ideal of killing millions of people. Also, it's hard not to feel sad that there were millions of other Anne Frank's that died during the Holocaust<br />▫️<br />Why read The Diary of a Young Girl?<br />▫️<br />You learn of what happens when humanity goes to the extremes of an ideology. You learn of grace and resilience in the face of adversity. You learn that everyone has their stories<br />▫️<br />How can you use this information?<br />▫️<br />Don't be like the madman. In a way, you have a responsibility to guard that it never happen again.
