The one big difference Kindle has made to my life: I’m now reading books that I would never have bought otherwise. Newest books by authors I had not heard of, books I was just curious enough to want to read but probably not want to own. Contemporary stuff. New stuff. Unknown stuff. Kindle took away that psychological burden of “buying a book” knowing that you might be stuck with an unwanted bunch of space-consuming paper afterwards. It’s the book version of iTunes or Spotify. It encourages irresponsible shopping and makes me adventurous in trying.🤣 This latest read being a good example: a highly rated 2019 new release that just arrived last week- that turned out to be not quite what I expected. When pre-ordering months ago I thought I was signing up for some exotic heart-wrenching firefighter story. But it turned out to be an unrealistic pseudo-feminist young-adultish chick fic featuring a surreal superheroine who wouldn’t stop rambling and a corny fire-station romance. I wouldn’t say it was BAD. It was entertaining enough that I read til the end with ease. But it was like a firefighter version of “chicken soup for the young soul” or something that kept trying to lecture me on love and courage and forgiveness and some great wisdoms of life and whatnot.. Just too cheesy and cliché for bitter old me.
