Is librarianship your career, or just a job?

Recently on Twitter, there was a big debate going on after a librarian posted that "he wasn't his job". He was tired of other librarians always talking about work as "calling", and wanted to put it out there that not every librarian lives and breathes libraries.

The resulting comments were soooo interesting! Everything from librarians complaining that friends were always sending them links to library related clothing, to those who desperately wanted the others to know that they felt librarianship was a career that could not be compared to, say, accountants.

We all know that being a librarian means more than just talking about books. We're educators, creators, mentors, tech experts, marketers, social workers, community engagers, promoters, fund raisers, caregivers, and so much more. But does that mean we have to live and breathe libraries even when work is finished?
