It’s time to introduce another composer from our upcoming 2019-2020 season! We’re excited to work with Michael-Thomas Foumai. 🎶<br /><br />Michael-Thomas Foumai (b. 1987, Honolulu, Hawai‘i) is a composer of contemporary concert music. Recent work includes collaboration in the Symphony of the Hawaiian Birds and Raise Hawaiki, a choral symphony based on the story of the Polynesian voyaging canoe Hōkūle‘a.<br /><br />Michael’s orchestral music has been performed by the Minnesota Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, American Composers Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, Cabrillo Festival Orchestra, Portland Symphony Orchestra and the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra among others.<br /><br />His honors include a Fromm Foundation grant from Harvard University for Manookian Murals, commissioned by the Dolce Suono Ensemble, the Music Teachers National Association Distinguished Composer of the Year Award, Jacob Druckman Prize from the Aspen Music Festival, three BMI composer awards and the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award.<br /><br />Michael currently serves on the faculty of the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa in the theory and composition area.
