Al-Hamidiyah Souk is the largest and the central souk located inside the heart of the old walled city of Damascus, Syria. The souk starts at Al-Thawra Street and ends at the Umayyad Mosque plaza. It dates back to the Ottoman era and was built along the axis of the Roman route to the Temple of Jupiter around 1780 during the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid I. Nowadays it is one of the most popular shopping districts in Syria. All types of goods of every shape, size and color are sold on the market, the most important of which are handmade crafts such as copper art, fabrics in all its forms of silks and cottons, embroideries, jewelry, gold, paintings, rugs, furniture, cafés, grocery stores, food stalls and ice cream parlors. Al-Hamidiya is famous for its long history, for visiting the East is not complete without visiting its’ most famous market. It was one of the treasures featured in the 2005 BBC documentary Around the World in 80 Treasures presented by Dan Cruickshank.

سوق الحميدية هو أكبر سوق مركزي يقع في قلب دمشق القديمة في سوريا .يبدأ السوق في شارع الثورة وينتهي في ساحة الجامع الأموي. يعود تاريخه إلى العصر العثماني ، وتم بناؤه على طول محور الطريق الروماني إلى معبد جوبتير الدمشقي في حوالي عام 1780 في عهد السلطان عبد الحميد الأول. في الوقت الحاضر ، هو واحد من أكثر مناطق التسوق شعبية في سوريا. تباع في السوق كافة أنواع البضائع من كل صنف ولون وأهمها الصناعات التراثية اليدوية مثل المصنوعات النحاسية والأقمشة بكافة أنواعها الحريرية والقطنية والمطرزات والصناعات التراثية السورية وكافة أنواع الملابس الجاهزة وأدوات الزينة والأحذية والمفروشات والسجاد والذهب والتحف والمقاهي ومحلات البقالة وأكشاك الطعام ومحلات بيع الآيس كريم. ويشتهر الحميدية بتاريخه العريق، فزيارة الشرق لا تكتمل إلا بزيارة أشهر الأسواق التراثية في الشرق.كان واحدا من الكنوز التي ظهرت في فيلم وثائقي قدمه دان كرشيشانك لهيئة الإذاعة البريطانية BBC عام 2005 أسمه :حول العالم في 80 كنز.
