#Repost @bloomsdisco with @get_repost
・・・
Mister Zero, my guitarist friend from the great Canadian band The Kings, recently sent me a few terrific photos of Dan Erlewine playing the 1959 Les Paul Standard that he would later sell to Michael Bloomfield. So here's Dan, on the left, playing a gig with his band the Prime Movers, probably in Ann Arbor in early 1968. On the right is Bloomfield, of course, playing the same guitar six years later during the storied Butterfield Blues Band reunion at the Winterland Ballroom on Feb. 23, 1973. Dan had purchased the Sunburst from a friend because he wanted a Goldtop like Michael's and couldn't find one. So he settled for the Standard (imagine that!). In the meantime, Bloomfield had decided he wanted a Standard like he'd seen Clapton playing with Cream when the PBBB toured England in 1966. When he saw that Dan had one in the spring of 1967, he traded Erlewine the Goldtop for it. The guitar, by 1973, had suffered a lot of abuse, losing knobs and binding, its finish scratched and chipped, and its head stock cracked. But it still made great music – in Michael's hands anyway.
