Had a great few hours at @kentwildlife #SevenoaksWildlifeReserve today. It was warm and bright and there were birds everywhere - especially early on.
Noting that warm weather was forecast I took a strategic decision to head to Sevenoaks rather than other potential locations due to its numerous lakes and surrounding woodland. I knew that there would be plenty to see even when the heat of the day hit. I was rewarded with 30 species including a Green Sandpiper and I also enjoyed extended views of juvenile Great Crested Grebe hunting with their parents. The stripy heads that they have when they are young almost make them look like a different species.
The woodland birds played a fine supporting role with plenty of Great Tits, Long Tailed Tits, Blue Tits and Blackbirds to see as I wandered between the lakes. Overall a very pleasant trip and it is great to see the reserve in such great shape at the end of summer.
