‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ was based on a novel with the same name, written by Dianna Wynne Jones. The film and novel differed quite a lot but Dianna was still pleased with how it turned out, despite having no input into the movie’s production. All of the film’s scenes were firstly hand-drawn before being processed digitally, totalling up to around 1400 storyboards, and the images were retouched manually to give a hand drawn animation style. Until this day, the film is one of Miyazaki’s favourites!

It’s an exciting and interesting movie that I find so engaging! The characters are lovely as well with all their unique but complementing quirks. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves fantastical films or just wants to explore Studio Ghibli’s works! 🔥
