An Absolutely Remarkable Thing

Fast-paced & mostly pretty fun read. The first 50% was a super compelling page turner. The second half was a bit slower, and the ending was a bit of a letdown, which is why my final rating is 3.75/5.
On the surface this is a book about aliens. But it’s really not. It’s about fame, being addicted to fame, and the endless chase to be ‘relevant’ and ‘get ahead of the narrative’.
Though the main character was in her early 20s, her intelligence and maturity level is more like a 14 yr old’s. I had a hard time relating to how the ONLY thing she cared about was her internet fame, and her growing fame was never good enough for her. She was also SO selfish - willing to put humanity at risk for the sake of her internet fame.
The plot moved at a great pace for the first 60% of the book, and the story is interesting. Green writes well about internet culture and internet fame. I was driven to keep turning the pages until the end, despite the last arc of the book being a bit flat. And the ending sort of devoid of creativity
