The term Minotaur derives from the Ancient Greek Μῑνώταυρος, a compoud of the name Μίνως(Minos) and the noun ταύρος "bull", translated as "(the) Bull of Minos". In Crete, the Minotaur was known by the name Asterion, a name shared with Minos' foster-father.
