One month update of the shallow 5 gal planted tank..
I used 1 inch of organic dirt as the base layer and capped it with 1 inch of black sand. There is no filter in this tank but I am using a small submersible pump to maintain a slow flow of water through the partially submerged driftwood. I never added any fertilizer in this tank but some of the leaves are showing nutrient deficiency now, so I added one pump of all in one fertilizer today. I am really happy with the plant growth so far. The light is 23 W fluorescent bulb. The emersed plants are hygrophila pinnatifida, anubias hastifolia, hydrocotyle leucocephala, lobelia cardinalis, limnophila aromatica, ludwigia glandulosa and proserpinaca palustris.
