So I just saw the new film by Australian director Jennifer Kent (Director of The Babadook) The Nightingale and it was pretty great. The Babadook is a film I didnt really get a great deal out of unlike other people so I wasnt really going into this film with much of an expectation

The cinematography was fantastic, lots of great use of natural lighting. All of the performances were fantastic especially Aisling Franciosi who might have given the best performance of the year by an actress, shame she wont get recognized.

Its very realistic in terms of its themes, the only real problem I had with the film was the pacing at times was abit slow especially towards the 3rd act for my liking, but at the same time the movie kind of needed it to maintain its realistically dreary and brutal tone.

Overall this is a film that is really going to stick with me for awhile, Its definitely not something I could recommend to a general audience because of how brutal and depressing it is but I found alot to enjoy about this film, And im giving this one an 8/10.
