@advakator When I give lectures on American Racism, I often start by explaining that you can tell a lot about what a nation values based on what it commemorates. Think about how extensive the coverage is for 9/11; how we fly flags, have ceremonies, demand moments of silence. Now contrast that with moments from the civil rights movement. You ever see that kind of energy expended for the 1,000s of people who lost their lives to bigotry and hatred? Flags flown? Moments of silence? Can you even call to memory an annual day we’ve set aside to honor the lives of those heroes who have brought us closer to our more perfect union? Those courageous Americans who helped perfect our union and actualize our democratic ideals?
