In 1980, film actress Theresa Russell was briefly in a love triangle with former husband, filmmaker Nicolas Roeg and rock musician Pete Townshend of The Who. During the courtship of Theresa’s and Nic’s relationship, Theresa also went on a few dates with Pete. The starlet was quickly taken aback when the songwriter revealed he was already in love with her, which she immediately told him that she was more seriously interested in Nic and was just having some fun with Pete. The guitarist later went on to use the rejection and infatuation as inspiration for the song ‘Athena’ on The Who’s 1982 album It’s Hard. Nic and Theresa became married from 1982 to sometime in the 1990s, and have two sons together. In Pete’s 2012 memoir Who I Am, he claims Theresa told him it was her idea to feature the Who song ‘Who are You’ in the film Bad Timing (1980), starring her and directed by Nic.
