Kumbhaka- Breath Retention⠀<br />The idea of breath retention happens when you still the breath at the top of the inhale or the bottom of the exhale. Spiritually, the idea of breath retention reflects mastering the elements of the mind in relation to desire and avoidance. The idea is not to forcefully retain the breath, as you look for duration but to look at the gap between the inhale and exhale as a place of rest and to allow the natural inclination to lead the next inhale/exhale. The most beneficial part of this practise is the mental control gained and the ability to enter what is now scientifically known as the “flow” state. The state where the brain waves slowdown from Beta to Alpha brain waves.
