Last Fall I won a silent auction for Sophie to cheer with the middle school cheerleaders at a football game and tonight she got to do it. I can’t describe how proud I was in that moment and am of her daily. Her tenacity and bravery as an 8-year-old 2nd-grader amongst older schoolmates was just incredible. She only had one practice leading up to it, but met the night head-on with zero fear or hesitance. I pray she never loses the spirit to try new things or to put herself out there. The world can be a scary and hateful place, but tonight, seeing her front and center with young women who were encouraging her with such grace was something I’ll never forget. It’s an important reminder to empower our youth and to empower one another. Life is too short to be anything but kind and gracious to those around us.
