Speaking another language is not only beneficial, and an important skill to have, it is a way for immigrants (regardless of status) to hang onto their culture. By telling us to “speak english” and that we’re “in America now,” people are telling us that we should forget about our culture. It is telling little children of immigrants that what their parents did and their background isn’t important. It is utterly disgusting.
