This week Outreach & Equity Librarian Betsy Vaca and ILC Director Tera Martin had the privilege of traveling to Cypress College to view the opening of a prototype of the exhibition, “Hostile Terrain 94.” Organized by Jason de León and the Undocumented Migration Project, HT94 is a participatory exhibit that engages and honors migrant deaths along the US/Mexico border. Using anthropological research, each toe tag marks one migrant’s death, and is located on the wall map in the geographical place where their remains were found along this small stretch of the Arizona /Mexico border. We are honored that Cabrillo will be one of 150 sites internationally to host this exhibition in the Fall of 2020 and shine more light on this humanitarian crisis. Reading the tags for the brothers Francisco and Clemente Peralta Enrique, ages 15 and 16, and all the 3,100+ tags from this small section of our border, stays with us. @hostileterrain94
