Just in case my “best dressed” choice didn’t make it clear, I really like Emperor Ken. I’ve always liked the concept of a human bad guy in a Digimon show, and a Digidestined gone bad is an especially compelling idea. Throw in the fact that I still think that stupid costume is unironically awesome, and you’ve got my favorite Digimon bad guy.
THAT SAID, I do think the D-Reaper from Tamers is probably a more effective, scary threat in its respective series. That thing gets straight up Lovecraftian by the end. But that’s just the thing: the “bad guy” in a cosmic horror story isn’t the scary monster, it’s the horrifying reality that the universe allows creatures like that to exists. The D-Reaper is kind of like that, more of a force of nature than a character in the story. While I like Tamers better as a story, I still think Ken makes a better villain as a character.
