Do you ever feel like things are just not going to plan?

How do you tend to handle things when life gets stressful?

Here’s the thing. My whole goal with this social media thing is to be a light. To help others find their way, and worth, but I’ve realized I can’t really do that unless you can see my rough edges too. And if I’m completely honest, I often don’t handle stress well. On the outside it might seem like it. I’m still getting work done, the kids are always taken care of and the house may not be clean, (real life) but it’s still standing.
See, I’m the type of person that puts my feelings aside to get life done, and then explodes when it gets to be too much. Instead of processing how I’m feeling, I don’t process at all and then end up overwhelmed and exhausted. Hiding in my closet crying so the kids won’t see.

But no one would know that because typically on social media, and in real life as well, very few people are prepared for the real, raw answer when they ask how you are. When people ask how someone’s doing, they don’t expect them to say, well, I’m pretty sure I need to go on anxiety meds and my life feels like it’s falling apart. How are you?

Nope. Nobody likes a Debbie Downer. So when life gets hard, we pretend. We say, I’m fine, how are you? When in reality we’re hanging by a thread.

But wouldn’t it be amazing if we could be that real? To not have to put on appearances because it’s just so dang hard sometimes? To be honest when we need help? To not feel like we’ll be judged for not having it all together all the time?
It’s a funny thing about self development, you end up having to get over yourself and recognize all your flaws as well as your virtues in order to grow. I recognize now when I’m not processing things like I should. Especially during a busy season when there’s so much going on it’s hard to keep up.

And I’m working on setting more boundaries. Focusing on gratitude rather than what I feel like might be going wrong. Because there really is so much right.

Just remember it’s a bad day, not a bad life. Give yourself the grace and time to process. There will be less crying spells in the closet if you do 😉
