Since the beginning of his career, Kenneth Noland has worked in series creating paintings which have explored schematic compositions in different combinations of colour, from the first “Circles” started in 1958, to the “Stripes” conceived in the mid-60s. In this series the artist made paintings composed entirely by horizontal stripes of pure colour, employing simple forms to create ready-made structures and to concentrate the effect of colour.
