Thoughts on a Tuesday...we’ve all heard of the different love languages and how each of us receives and gives love, but have you ever thought about where your love language(s) come from? How about the possibility that you can love someone in an unhealthy way? Growing up, my parents were extremely hard on me, pointing out every thing I did “wrong” or could improve on because they “loved” me. They’d say “Your friends don’t point out your flaws because they don’t care enough about you” or “We criticize you so that you can improve yourself before someone else criticizes you for the same thing”. And this is the same love their parents showed them. Needless to say, that did more damage than good and now as an adult, I find myself loving those closest to me with the same critical and conditional love, if I am not careful. I see the hurt in their eyes sometimes, and it is earth shattering to know that your words can impact someone so much. But here’s the thing. I can break this cycle and so can you. You can change how you love out of habit and default and decide how you love from this day forward through discipline, practice and anchoring yourself to a healthier definition of love. For me, my anchor is 1 Corinthians 13. The world is cruel enough without us having to add fuel to fire. Let someone else fan the flames, and let’s be the ones who put the fire out. Choose love. .
.
Tag someone you believe would be uplifted by this thought today.
.
.
.
.
https://www.freepik.com/free-photo/hot-beverage-with-warm-sweater-light-surface_4975704.htm
