Transformation Tuesday: One of the hardest places to grow a lush, vibrant landscape is between a parking lot and sidewalk because many people walk through the landscaping, which hinders its growth. At the Shops at Kukuiu`ula, the native Naupaka planted in these areas would often suffer broken limbs when walked on, so we relocated it elsewhere and installed the softer, flexible and quick spreading Purple Ruellia in its place. Along with a little compost, soil and minor tuning of the existing irrigation, the Ruellia has thrived. We love Ruellia as it offers quick plant and flower recovery after damage and provides for an attractive business exterior.
