Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of therapy I use when the inevitable happens, when situations may not change such as with chronic pain, or for clients who are super into mindfulness. <br />My favorite concept of ACT are the terms “Fusion” and “Defusion”<br /><br />Fusion is a process of fusing with your emotions. You become them. You are them. They consume you. <br />Defusion is when you step back from your feelings. You look at them as separate entities or messengers. You’re curious about what triggered your response. <br />FEELINGS ARE TEMPORARY. Read that again. <br />They come and go. You are a rock and your feelings are the river. Your feelings aren’t you and you aren’t them.
