Shout out to Ivy Dawson Dawson @autismmomadvantage who encouraged me to go for it yesterday when I had my hair catastrophe. And a HUGE shoutout to my hair stylist, Niesha Young @hairtopia0 for taking my hair down and shaving my sides and back so my Mohawk locs looked amazing., I took two Aleave and will probably sleep on my chin tonight!🤣😂🤣 But no matter, I love my hair and I LOVE being a Black Woman. This hair style took 7 hours to do and a few hundred dollars including hair and tip. I don’t mind. I love sitting in the African Beauty Shop, eating ox tails and curry chicken, listening to all the languages and being nurture by Black Women. I love how hair gets elevated to art and the feeling of community is dripping from the walls. I feel nurtured and seen in Black beauty shops. I always have.
Of course we run late, the kids get into it about a toy, the TV is playing something I don’t want to see and my stylist stops to eat, take calls and do her prayers as a devote Muslim. I love it all!!! I feel home at the beauty shop and I ALWAYS leave feeling beautiful!
