Chakli, an Indian savory snack, mostly made at home during festivals and is a part of the elaborate menu. Rest of the year, it is bought from a bakery or a store and is categorized as haalu-mulu, a Kannada phrase for snacks that aren’t healthy but are bought anyways.
Most of them are made to be spiral in shape but my parents have never succumbed to that peer pressure (in this matter. Proud of them!) The chakli dough has always had the freedom to take its own shape in the baandli (frying pan) at our house. 😋
It’s Ganesha Chaturthi time and I miss home, mostly the food and my brother’s live updates from the kitchen with pictures aren’t helping.
