Since the start of the new millennium, too many tracks have been falsely produced (pretending to understand the genre's origins, but knowing nothing), and sung by hacks who use their "talent" only for money - and that is exactly what it sounds like, too. Very few musicians understand that Funk has a "soul", and its essence has nothing to do with mere duplication. Too much of it is a phony, toy version of Funk. Enter #DwayneCousin (D'wayne Cousin ) "The Rugged" (#TheRugged) @realrugged who seems to understand where I'm coming when I say these things. I can tell, and I trust my ear, that he does. 👉 The Rugged's new single, "#HangWitMe" is a refreshing, well produced departure from what I've been hearing for some time now (and is 📲available on all digital formats 📲). 👈 The love of Funk music is all over this track. From the song's intro, I heard organ chords bursting in, Hip-Hop influenced rhythm enhancements, and vocals that echo Funk's history (but not in a cheap, lazy way - that phony stuff). And the party didn't stop - not even for a second. When he sang "I can be the new thang in your life", and invited his lady to "see what we can be," I thought of The Commodores, not Bruno Mars.
