09:02. Finished Chigozie Obioma's Man Booker-shortlisted first novel, The Fishermen. Meh. Too much in the Achebe/Ngugi tradition for my liking, and perhaps also a little too hopeful at the end about the possibilities of personal and national redemption. The narrative perspective with heaps of painstaking flashbacks results in either some continuity problems or some too easy resolutions/explanations. A fairly quick and not unengaging read though. ★★☆☆☆
